The Renewal Centre at Crossroads is designed to offer people in various stages of recovery
An opportunity to revive and refresh, their recovery
January 18, 2010
The Renewal Centre at Crossroads is designed to offer people in various stages of recovery an opportunity to revive and refresh, their recovery experience. We provide a safe, supportive environment to explore various issues with an emphasis on creating balance in one’s life. Through staff facilitation and group interaction, participants experience a powerful week of self awareness and rediscovery.
All of our recovery retreats are founded in the Twelve Steps as well as the Crossroads Centre whole person approach to recovery. This means that in addition to Twelve Step studies, lectures, facilitated group discussions and individual assignments, participants are introduced to complementary therapies such as: yoga, fitness activities, meditation, and massage therapy. Our recovery retreats, while providing an opportunity for intensive self-discovery and awareness, also combine off -site activities unique to Antigua to make for an enriched experience. As our participants know only too well, Antigua is the perfect place to continue the journey of recovery.
Please note: If in recovery, these programs are designed for individuals with a minimum of 60 days of abstinence/ sobriety. People who are actively using alcohol or drugs addictively are not appropriate for this program. Crossroads Centre is an alcohol and drug-free facility and all participants are expected to adhere to this policy.
Reinvent Your Recovery Recovery is about more than just abstinence or sobriety. It involves continued growth and attention in order to develop into something that is healthy and vital, yet it is common for people in various stages of recovery to feel that there is something missing or less satisfying in their personal recovery. Through lectures, small group sessions and various complementary therapies, we will help participants reinvent their recovery experience into something that is dynamic and vibrant. All of this takes place in breathtaking Antigua West Indies, and incorporates the many sights, sounds and experiences of this nature island. Whether you are looking for quiet reflection and spiritual reconnection or shared fellowship and adventure, this renewal retreat has something to offer everyone.

Resolutions of Faith By Carol Harblin
I do so declare my New Year’s resolutions to be…
January 18, 2010We’ve all written them out on January 1st. What are resolutions anyway? They are mere declarations, affirmations, decisions and promises that we make to ourselves in hopes to make something better. We hope to resolve some conflict or imbalance in our lives. Faith is such a big word. It encompasses trust in something greater than what we know and feel. It isn’t tangible in any sense. How do we go from knowing and believing to attaining faith and letting go?
Why have so many people turned to material possessions as a sort of security and comfort? People think that life is good when they acquire more money and the more “stuff.” But is it really? The more material they acquire, the emptier their lives are. They have a feeling that there is a void in their life and that they need to fill it.
They see what society gives them and they fill it with the things they only see. Why not declare a new year by announcing you want more faith? Material gain doesn’t fulfill the void that faith can fill. Christmas is a time of love and spiritual giving and fulfillment. It has little to do with acquiring material possessions like video games, jewelry, money, and gift cards.
January 1st is a time of reflecting upon what has worked and what has been positive in our lives. What do we keep and what do we discard? I am not just talking about “stuff,” I am also referring to the thoughts that manifest in our consciousness and awareness. What and/or who is of importance to us and do they work in our ever-so changing lifestyle? Faith can be reached through your own interpretation of spirituality. Without a little spirituality, we tread through life feeling unfulfilled and insecure. With little random acts of faith, more of the resolutions you desire will come to fruition.

A Matter of Peace
By: Carol Harblin
January 19, 2010
We wonder what life is all about on a day-to-day basis, and then when a disaster strikes we find the answer. After floods, hurricanes, deadly tornadoes, earthquakes, Tsunamis, plane crashes, and even avalanches, we find human compassion.
Compassion towards others means showing peace and love to other cultures, races, creeds, and colors. Our hearts are always in the right place when crisis happens, but what about when there is no crisis? Why aren’t we more helpful on those mundane days?
Martin Luther King, Jr was about peace and nonviolence. He didn’t see multiple races in the world, but only one race – the human race.
In observance of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr we should reflect upon our own lives and examine how much peace is in our hearts. As a human race, we have a long road ahead of us.
To form peace around us, we need to form peace within us. What’s a good way to attain inner peace?
· Daily meditation
· Have a smile on your face upon awakening
· Listen to music
· Practice International relations
· Increase physical activity every day
· Have faith
Before we sit in judgment of others, we should sit in judgment of ourselves. Let’s not wait for another global crisis before we offer a hand to a stranger. By helping ourselves, we strengthen our relationships with others. Feeling peace creates a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Let’s strive for health and wellness everyday! Happy Birthday Martin Luther King, Jr.

Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education (NOPE)
Task Force to educate students and parents.
January 5, 2010By Rachel Gomez Not enough action is being taken at the state and federal levels to combat the growing illegal distribution of illicit drugs and powerful prescription pills. Close to 24,000 people die of drug overdoses every year in the U.S., according to federal statistics.
Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education (NOPE) Task Force is a nonprofit that goes into schools and colleges to educate students and their parents about the dangerous consequences of using and mixing legal and illegal drugs. The agency brings its message to both public and private forums to focus attention on an epidemic that is killing children and adults alike. NOPE Task Force also aims to get youths addicted to drugs into treatment programs.
During this time of year, the holiday season can be hard for parents who have lost children to drugs. NOPE Task Force has a support group for them in West Palm Beach, Fla. so they can openly discuss their problems, process their feelings, and hear others talk about their situations.
NOPE Task Force believes that whether you’re a young person dealing with substance abuse or a grieving parent, you’re not alone. To find out more about NOPE Task Force, visit www.nopetaskforce.org.

The Upside of Divorce
It Can Be Your Second Chance
January 5, 2010I suffered a divorce but was able to recover quickly and easily and published a book so that others could do the same for themselves. I titled my book just like I saw my divorce, “Yes, There IS an Upside of Divorce – It Can Be Your Second Chance at Life!”
With prayers and positive thinking, I can show you how to handle the difficult issues more easily and quickly than I did myself. I can then help you to see the many more positive opportunities that are there for you after divorce and how to move on with these in your second chance at life. The many new “things-to-do,” that I did to make a happier and more enjoyable rest-of-life for myself, may also help you do the same.
My book is listed on Amazon, just search “upside of divorce.” It has received two five-star ratings from my first reviewers and a special recommendation from Self-Help-Product-Reviews.
I self-published with Book Surge (a division of Amazon) so I can offer everyone good discounts off my books on my own website, Self-Help-Products-and-Services (com).
You, your family and friends will find some good help here and I’ll take all your comments and questions. Thanks for a chance to help someone here, Brian Daniel.
Patience for 2010
By Carol Harblin
January 5, 2010
A resolution can be very overwhelming and scary intention to commit to. People write them down with the purest of intentions at heart and whole-heartedly want success. How come most resolutions don’t stick? More often than not, when our resolutions fail, we end up with a New Year’s depression. How can we alleviate these overwhelming resolutions?
Be patient with yourself. You know yourself better than anyone. Don’t just write down something that you think other people want to hear – like going to a gym. A gym is a good place, but it’s not necessarily the best place for you. Find out what makes you tick and do it. Do you like outdoors activities? Maybe skiing (cross-country or downhill), snowshoeing, ice skating, rollerblading, skate boarding, running, walking…there are several activities that you could do that pumps you up without resorting to a gym. Bike riding is a great activity too.
Some people even walk the mall. Some malls have ice skating rinks too. There are malls that have three floors. That makes it better to walk the mall – one floor at a time. Do you like to dance? Maybe dance classes are more your style to get your body moving. The bottom line is, know what you want to do and be patient with yourself.
Set realistic intentions based on your own guidelines and not someone else’s. When you feel overwhelmed, that is also a good indicator that you are not living one day at a time. You are looking too far into the future. You can only live in the moment in that one day. Do what you can at that time and know you are doing the best you can.
