There’s lots of great information for you on www.ascaniwm.com:

The biggest addition to our site is our new service, ETF S.T.A.R.S. Empower your investment decisions with a proven, market-driven model that listens to what the market is saying.

ETF S.T.A.R.S.™ is a weekly publication accessible right here on www.ascaniwm.com. It’s a dynamic market advisory service for investors and traders based on one of my most treasured secrets  of success managing client accounts:  A proprietary model I named ETF S.T.A.R.S.™, for ETF  Sector Timing And Ranking System. I’ve been using ETF S.T.A.R.S. for years to tell me when to become defensive for a big market decline, and when to release those defenses and find the ETFs most likely to outperform.

This is no ordinary financial advisory service like those written by editors and copywriters fancy with words but with little or no trading experience.  ETF S.T.A.R.S.™ reveals my proven model I’ve used for years to manage client assets at Ascani Wealth Management and for institutions such as corporate pension plans and other investment advisors.

This is a great time to try ETF S.T.A.R.S. on for size.  Catch our special introductory offer by clicking on this ETF S.T.A.R.S. link.   Remember: Our web programmers are still getting the bugs out, so if you have any problems accessing the service, please call our office at 877-578-5688.

Access to my daily radio show, Defending Your Money, broadcast live in South Florida during prime morning and evening rush hour on WSBR AM 740  Of Boca Raton Florida Mon- Friday 6:30 AM again at 5PM EST and Saturdays at 12:30 Pm EST or every Thursday at 2PM on the Holistic Lifestyles Radio Network. Catch the live stream by clicking on this Defending Your Money radio link.

Discover our managed account programs, and on our flagship managed portfolio, the Strategic ETF Asset Optimizer portfolio.  This program utilizes the flexibility and diversity of Exchange Traded Funds to not only diversify our clients’ portfolios across three primary asset classes — equities, fixed income, and alternative ETFs such as gold and silver ETFs, but I apply the ETF S.T.A.R.S. model along with other quantitative models on interest rates and gold/commodity prices, and my 27+ years experience in the industry, to strategically optimize precisely which ETFs the portfolio should hold and to strategically reallocate the portfolio when the stock market engages in a sustained decline.

Download special reports such as our popular Tapping the Power of Gold to Defend and Build Your Wealth, and our upcoming Tapping the Power of ETFs to Defend and Build Your Wealth.    The gold report analyzes nearly 500 years of gold and commodity price data, and data on inflation and deflation and the economic booms and busts of the past.  It also describes in easy-to-understand language the different ways to buy gold and silver, and features extensive analysis on purchasing power and building wealth.  The ETF report runs the gamut – from what ETFs are and how they work, to how to use ETFs to defend and build your wealth, to how we use ETFs and our ETF S.T.A.R.S. model for trading and investing.

Many wealth builder solutions for today’s investor, whether retired or saving for retirement, and whether individual or corporate.

Portfolio review request form.  Our portfolio reviews are extensive and thorough. We input your portfolio into our software to first measure the risk you’re taking in order to attempt to acheive your expected returns, then we analyze and recommend changes to your portfolio to help you manage risk while you look to achieve your goals. This is no ordinary portfolio review that many advisors offer.  This is likely to be the most extensive analysis of your portfolio and your goals and financial needs you’ve had yet.

I hope you find our services useful, and I hope you consider using our services as part of your investment input into your decision-making process.

Good luck and good fortune,

Dan Ascani

Health is a Balancing Act

by on Dec.30, 2010, under Home

Relationships are the Primary Meal

Carol Harblin (CHHC)

By Carol Harblin

We all want good health, but nobody actually knows what it is and how to get it. We all have a theory, but that is all it is. People think that if they decrease their calories, carbs, or fat, then they will be in good health. Some believe that if they go to a gym every day then they will be in good health. But are they really in good health? Truly, those people are actually struggling with health issues just like anyone else.

So, then, what is good health anyway?

Good health is being able to balance physical activity, spirituality, relationships, and career while going through the motions of your every day routine. Consider the spirituality, activity, relationships and career the four pieces of our primary food. Primary food is what feeds our whole bodies – not just our stomachs.

Eating a balanced diet rich in vegetables, fruit, and whole grains is also essential too, but without nourishing ourselves with that primary food, life will be very imbalanced. By fulfilling ourselves with this primary food we are enriching ourselves and our lives. We feel more complete and centered.

Next time we reach for an extra serving of food or that hot fudge sundae, think about the four pieces of our primary food and find out what is lacking because we may not need more folate, magnesium, vitamin C, protein, or even more carbs – we might just need that special friend’s ear to listen to us, or a walk around the block, or to find the job that makes you happy.

It’s important to listen to the cues in your body for signs of sickness and it’s important to be aware of the details of your life every day.

Good health means balance. It’s not an easy feat to be healthy and stay healthy. Good health is something we have to work at every day. Attaining good health is not a destination, it’s a journey.

We have to strive for physical, emotional, spiritual, mental, and even financial health every day. It’s not just about how hard our muscles are getting by pumping more weights at the gym – it’s about how to strive to maintain a balance of primary food in addition to our balanced diet.

Remember, don’t walk the journey of health alone – walk it with a health practitioner you trust. The health journey is a beautiful trip that lasts a lifetime.

Twelve-Step Programs

by on Dec.29, 2010, under Home

The related concept of drug addiction has many different definitions. Some writers give drug addiction to the same meaning as substance dependence, others for example provide drug addiction a narrower meaning which excludes drugs without evidence of tolerance or withdrawal symptoms.

The American Society of Addiction Medicine has this definition for Addiction. Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in the individual pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors. The addiction is characterized by impairment in behavioral control, craving, inability to consistently abstain, and diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors and interpersonal relationships. Like other chronic diseases, addiction involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death.

A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book, Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered From Alcoholism in 1939.  The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs such as Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Co-Dependents Anonymous and Debtors Anonymous. As summarized by the American Psychological Association, the process involves the following:

  • admitting that one cannot control one’s addiction or compulsion;
  • recognizing a higher power that can give strength;
  • examining past errors with the help of a sponsor (experienced member);
  • making amends for these errors;
  • learning to live a new life with a new code of behavior;
  • helping others who suffer from the same addictions or compulsions.

Twelve-step methods have been adopted to address a wide range of substance abuse and dependency problems. Over 200 self-help organizations–often known as fellowships–with a worldwide membership of millions, now employ twelve-step principles for recovery. Narcotics Anonymous was formed by addicts who did not relate to the specifics of alcohol dependency. Similar demographic preferences related to the addicts’ drug of choice has led to the creation of Cocaine Anonymous, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Pills Anonymous and Marijuana Anonymous. Behavioral issues such as compulsion for, and/or addiction to, gambling, food, sex, hoarding, debting and work are addressed in fellowships such as Gamblers Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Sexual Compulsives Anonymous, Clutterers Anonymous, Debtors Anonymous and Workaholics Anonymous. Auxiliary groups such as Al-Anon and Nar-Anon, for friends and family members of alcoholics and addicts, respectively, are part of a response to treating addiction as a disease that is enabled by family systems.

Alcoholics Anonymous is the largest of all the twelve-step programs, followed by Narcotics Anonymous; the majority of twelve-step members are recovering from addiction to drugs or alcohol. The majority of twelve-step programs, however, address illnesses other than addiction. For example, the third largest twelve-step program, Al-Anon, assists family members of alcoholics and addicts. About twenty percent of twelve-step programs are for addiction recovery, the other eighty percent address a variety of problems from debt to depression.  It would be an error to assume the effectiveness of twelve-step methods at treating problems in one domain translates to all or to another domain, therefore readers are directed to relevant sections in each group’s article.

One review of twelve-step programs warned of detrimental iatrogenic effects of twelve-step philosophy, and labeled the organizations as cults. A subsequent study concluded that these programs bore little semblance to religious cults because the techniques used appeared beneficial. Another study found that a twelve-step program’s focus on self-admission of having a problem increases deviant stigma and strips members of their previous cultural identity replacing it with the deviant identity. A survey of twelve-step group members, however, found they had a bicultural identity and saw twelve-step programs as a complement to their other national, ethnic, and religious cultures.
