23rd Annual Christmas Toys In The Sun Run
by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Nov.30, 2010, under Home
Sunday December 5th Toys In The Sun Toy Run will be happening for the 23rd year to benefit the Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital for cancer treatments. The expected turnout for this event is over 70,000 located at Markham Park in Sunrise Florida. The toy run begins at Seminole Coconut Creek and ends up at Markham Park for the all day bash with great music, food and fun.
The bands for the day will be on the main stage Charlie Daniels Band also playing is Dr. Strong, Hep Cat Boo Daddies, Soulicide, and SouthernRock Society. This is a great thing being done by all involved who come for this all day event.
Many people do not want to associate cancer with children. It is just an unthinkable horror. It’s easy to dismiss the idea by saying, “This will never happen to my child.” Unfortunately, it happens more often than we’d like to believe. According to the National Childhood Cancer Foundation, one in every four elementary schools has a child with cancer. While many children are cured, there are still many children who will die.
It is said: When you lose your parents you are an orphan. When you lose your spouse you are a widow(er). There is no name for a parent who loses their child because it is just too unspeakable. Please come out with a toy on December 5Th 2010 and help carry a message of love and hope. I know this is where I’m spending my Sunday this week.

PLEASE NOTE – STARTING VENUE CHANGE FOR 2010
No pre-registration is required for the parade unless you wish to be a VIP Rider. For VIP Rider information click on the “VIP Info” link above. Otherwise, go directly to Seminole Casino Coconut Creek on Sunday, December 5, 2010. Gates open at 630am, parade pulls out at 9:30am SHARP!!
(No motorcycles under 250cc allowed.)
New Parade Route:
Coconut Creek Casino West Parking Lot onto US 441 (SR7) North to Wiles Rd East to Powerline Rd South to Sample Rd. East to I95 South to I595 West to Exit 1 (136th Ave)
The Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is located at 5550 NW 40th Street, Coconut Creek FL 33073, south of West Palm Beach and north of Fort Lauderdale in the city of Coconut Creek. It is west of interstate 95 and the Florida Turnpike and east of the Sawgrass Expressway, one quarter mile east of State Road 7/441. Please be advised that traffic will be diverted on some of these roads while the parade is in progress (approximately 3.5 hours – see parade route above). If you do not wish to participate in the motorcycle parade, or are coming by vehicle, we suggest you arrive at the park before 10am. The roads will be closed for the parade from 9:45am until approximately 1pm. The park opens at 8am and the live entertainment begins at 11am. Again, event cost is $10 and one unwrapped toy per person or $20 without a toy.
Also, Markham Park will be charging an additional $1.50 per person park entry fee at the main gate. Unfortunately this is beyond our control. It has nothing to do with the entry into the SFPC Christmas Toys in the Sun Run. We do apologize for any inconvenience.

Treatment of Co-occurring Disorder
by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Nov.28, 2010, under Home
Co-occurring disorders, also called dual diagnosis is a highly specialized treatment that focuses on the addiction as well as any underlying mental illness conditions. Since drug addiction is a psychological disease, it often leads to mental disorders and psychological issues. Similarly mental issues may well lead to addiction and substance abuse problems. Some studies have shown that up to six in 10 people that have substance abuse problems also suffer from another psychological disorder. Interestingly, these rates are similar to the rates of mental illness in people who use larger quantities of legal drugs such as tobacco and alcohol.
It is of utmost importance that individuals with co-occurring disorders seek specialized treatment that address both the substance abuse issues and mental illness as one can be a trigger for the other. These specialized centers, of which Destination Hope is one, treat the dual problem by addressing both issues simultaneously allowing the addict to cope with each of them with long-term success.

Belief: I Must Buy Gifts for the Holidays!
by Holistic Lifestyles Radio on Nov.28, 2010, under Home
‘Black Friday’, the day where stores hold wonderful sales and we all begin to get ready for the gift giving holiday. And yet I wonder how many of us really understand the concept of gift giving? How many of us live in fear of gift giving? And how many of us dread the mail after this most wonderful of all gift giving holidays has passed?
As you embark upon the gift buying portion of this magical time, consider your beliefs around what must be done during this holiday season…consider your beliefs that have been created by fears, of not being enough, of not being worthy to receive a gift, of not having enough.
And then consider, simply consider, what you would do to create the most magical holiday you can imagine if you did not have these beliefs. Consider how you would craft this holiday time if you were not caught up in what has become the societal norm of gift giving, and over indulging, and anger and frustration and fear.
Simply begin to consider one shift you would love to make in your holiday ‘traditions’ and then go about making it. You might even decide to make more than one once you know how good it feels to begin the process.
And enjoy ‘Black Friday’.
How would you like to consider shifting some of your long-held beliefs?

Dirty Secrets by STEPHEN D. HERMAN, M.D.
I am a physician who has worked for many years as Chief Director of Research at the Kenya Medical Research at Nairobi, Kenya to invent and develop an effective non toxic treatment for AIDS and other viral diseases.
I am also the author of the book entitled “Death by Drugs” in which I show with their own data that the entire pharmaceutical/medical complex has failed us all. More than six hundred thousand deaths annually are caused by legal drugs in the US alone. If you follow my blog I will prove to you the scope of this failure in relation to AIDS, heart disease, vaccines, cancer and much more.
A telling statistic that is an irrefutable consequence of this failure is that in 1977 the US death rate was 8.8 per thousand persons. In 2010, 33 years later despite the entire panoply of modern “miracle” medicine the US death rate is 8.2 per thousand a reduction of a mere 4%. The 50% reduction in smoking over that time should have reduced the death rate at least 20% so we have a net increase of 15% despite all the miracles and life saving drugs that modern medicine has supplied us with at a cost of one trillion each year. Not to mention our great stride into the so called healthy life style.
Follow my blog here on the Holistic Lifestyles Radio Network and I will shine a light on all the revealing data that exposes the dirty secrets about the modern medical miracles that your doctor doesn’t want you to know or more likely doesn’t know himself/herself.

Welcome Brothers And Sisters!

Rodney Coates Curtis Harris Elijah James
The Brother’s Keeper Network was founded on the belief that everyone, especially those who have been disconnected from society, whether by incarceration or addiction, has the ability, and responsibility to invest and contribute to the individual lives around us and to our communities as a whole.

Our mission at Brother’s Keeper Network is to ignite this desire and sense of responsibility in the hearts of those formally disconnected. We do this by reconnecting them with family and providing a limitless network of resources to aid in the re-creation of broken lives. We bring hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, helping brothers help brothers and helping sisters help sisters.
At the present time we enter juvenile facilities to talk and interact with troubled children. We share our past experiences with them in the hope that they will learn from our mistakes and choose a different path. We also provide individual sessions, upon parental request. Our hopes are to be called upon to bring our message into prisons, churches, jails and homeless shelters. Brother’s Keeper will come wherever and whenever we are needed.
Our future goals include assisting in job preparation and placement by initiating jobs within Brother’s Keeper. Through the generosity of individual donations and our Brother’s Keeper Network fundraisers, we will be able to acquire all the necessary equipment needed to support the participants and organization in fulfilling this goal. One of our most pressing priorities is addressing the issue of homelessness and its impact on those re-entering society. We also incorporate homelessness prevention and life skills training so those in our program will obtain – and maintain – employment and become productive members of the community.

DECISION-MAKING IN EARLY ADDICTION RECOVERY

IMPROVING DECISION-MAKING IN EARLY RECOVERY
by Siobhan A. Morse, MHSA, CRC, CAI, MAC;
It is well established that in both food- and drug-addicted individuals there is “dopamine resistance” which is associated with certain genetic factors. The collective set of symptoms and behaviors associated with this resistance is termed “Reward Deficiency Syndrome”. Based on earlier studies, evidence is emerging that demonstrates the potential of a natural, nonaddicting, safe and holistic nutritional supplement in mitigating the effects of this dopamine resistance. This nutritional supplement may play a significant role in the recovery of individuals with reward deficiency syndrome, including those addicted to psychoactive chemicals.
Using the clinical trials performed by pharmaceutical companies as a model, we studied the effects of a natural, non-addictive, safe and holistic nutritional supplement, Synaptose in individuals with a history of drug addiction. We used a placebo control which means that we administered Synaptose at one visit and placebo at the other visit. It was a triple blind study which means that the addicts, the data collectors and the data evaluators did not know which visit was placebo and which was Synaptose. We measured the brain activity using quantitative electroencephalographic imaging (qEEG) at each visit after the addict drank either placebo or Synaptose.
We found significant differences between the placebo and the Synaptose. Areas that were dysregulated became regulated after drinking the Synaptose. The results are indicative of a phase change from low amplitude or low power in the brain to a more regulated state in the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is the area of the brain is associated with planning and complex thinking, decision making and social behaviors. Regulating the prefrontal cortex could have implication in the addicts ability to differentiate among conflicting thoughts, determine good and bad, and analyze future consequences.
While we know there is no cure for addiction, this important work could ultimately lead to significant improvement in the recovery of individuals with drug abuse problems. Based on this important research Synaptose is a recommended adjunct to any holistic recovery program.
